This 400 person testing event is aimed for certified testers, TestausOSY members and other people interested in software testing and quality assurance. The seminar registration will be open in August. At this stage we open the call for papers. The theme of 2024 is ‘Change in the field of software testing’. I had a meeting today with a major Finnish machine manufacturer, and the topic was really interesting – how to leverage language models in the IoT world. Jens Podcasting .... Today I joined the recording of a Podcast Episode termed "Finding Agile Harmony: Navigating Framework Overload & Effectiveness". The Podcast is part of a series "Evolution Exchange Nordics Podcast" on various IT-related topics. See e.g. on Spotify here: https://lnkd.in/dfeQDyt6. As many of you will know the topic of Agile is very close to my heart, especially by not taking your eyes off the ball when understanding WHY and WHAT all the fuzz is about. All too often, teams and organizations believe they have achieved "being Agile" without perhaps perfectly understanding what this means, and potentially missing out on opportunities to further improve execution. For me, in SW development, one should start by looking at Agile from the values and principles introduced in The Agile Manifesto (https://lnkd.in/dMNpN2gM). This very short document focuses on values and basic principles for achieving quality software matching customer requirements in a better and much more efficient way [than was the case before]. Behind many of the key ideas is the fundamental ability to be Agile (think "being flexible and able to change") in terms of scope changes, tools, optimizing processes, training, etc. Another fundamental idea is to set the developers free by instilling in them a high degree of trust and autonomy. Agile Manifesto shares also some basic principles with eXtreme Programming (XP); for instance the all important idea of fully automated testing executed on a continuous basis. Be aware that the manifesto is in no way a blank check for developers to just go hacking away.. from from it! When you look at real world implementations of what is being perceived as "Agile", the focus is in my opinion too often on overarching frameworks that claim to bring Agile to the table. SAFe is one such example. While such frameworks can absolutely bring benefits, there is an inherent risk that people will start focusing on "doing SAFe" without actually understanding where it is bringing value in a given situation (and - conversely - where it is NOT bringing value and you would have been better off doing something else, or nothing at all!). I have experienced several times situations where a valid question "Why are we doing things in this way" is answered by "Because we are working Agile as described by Y". This is probably one of the worst possible outcomes you can have; not Agile/Flexible at all! Also, importantly, the focus on these big frameworks defocused from the ways of working suggested by Agile manifesto and associated eXtreme Programming (XP). The discussions shift from being about how to best develop stuff to (purely) discussing how to organize things. This is a big shame, and cause of much disappointment for the average SW developer affected... (continued in 1th comment - not sure why LinkedIn has such a strict size on posts) .... READ ON...
