Mason Police District – Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a man wanted for allegedly robbing and maliciously wounding a security guard in the 8300 block of Tobin Road on Saturday, May 21. An investigation determined the victim, a 30-year-old man, was conducting a regular security patrol around the apartment complex where he was employed. Around 1:50 a.m., he saw someone who appeared to be slumped over inside a vehicle parked on the property and went over to check on that person’s welfare.

The man awoke and became agitated with the victim. Then, three of the man’s friends approached from nearby, also became agitated with the victim and started yelling at him. One of the suspects allegedly assaulted him then fled with the other suspects in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the vehicle circled back around and the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim again then fled the area in the car, a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer. The victim’s phone was stolen during one of the assaults. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives of the Mason District Station took over the investigation and after a lengthy follow-up, identified the suspect as Tin Thien Diep, 20, of Falls Church, and on Thursday, July 28, obtained two warrants charging him with robbery and malicious wounding. He is believed to frequent the Annandale and Burke areas.
