This Is (no longer) Us: Stars celebrate, mourn final day of filming

Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and other stars say a teary goodbye to the NBC family drama.

You may not be ready to bid farewell to the Pearsons just yet, but the family gathering is over: This Is Us has finished filming its final season.

The actors of NBC's hit family drama have been marking the occasion with memories and tears on social media over the last few weeks, as various actors completed their work on different days. Faithe Herman, a.k.a. Annie — daughter of Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) — shared photos and videos on her last day on set with onscreen sisters Eris Baker (Tess) and Lyric Ross (Deja) in late April, "Still sad from last night. Ms @skelechiwatson thank you for being an amazing TV mom," she wrote. "I will truly miss you ! #ThisIsUsFinalChapter#ThisIsUs that a series wrap on the Pearson sisters."

Earlier this week, Watson tweeted a photo of herself with Brown in older-age makeup while writing, "We just wrapped our last scene of the series..."

Meanwhile, Mandy Moore (Rebecca) reflected, "Last day of work. The greatest 6 years at the best job I've ever had. Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude (and definitely lots of tears)." On Thursday, the actress shared a photo (snapped on set by Brown) that showed her in retro form, hugging on-screen husband Milo Ventimiglia. "Finishing the way we started," she wrote. "[Milo] and I shot the very first scenes of the pilot together and got to finish our last scene of [This Is Us] side by side. I haven't begun to process the end of this journey quite yet and I'm sure it will take me time."

On Wednesday, Brown shared, "Game. Set. Match! One door has closed. Looking forward to what God has in store next. Lotta tears. LOTTA laughs. & a whole lotta hugs! Enjoy the last few…I think we got something special. #ThatWasUs."

Chris Sullivan (Toby) offered his sign-off on Thursday, waving goodbye to the series with his own twist: "We have wrapped my final scenes for #thisisus," he wrote. "What an incredible 6 years these have been. ⁣With every end, there is a new beginning...so here is a trailer of what's to come." Watch the video for the reveal.

This is Us launched back in 2016 and immediately became a top-rated broadcast network series, reinvigorating the family-drama genre with its time jumps and twisty storytelling. The show has accumulated 38 Emmy nominations and four wins to date. (Those trophies were in the acting category — one for Brown as Lead Actor, and two for Ron Cephas Jones and one for Gerald McRaney in the Guest Actor category.) The show also stars Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, and Jon Huertas.

While the action has wrapped off-screen, there are a few more episodes of family drama to unspool before the end. The fourth-to-last installment, which centered on the bittersweet life of Miguel, aired on Tuesday, and the series finale will be unveiled May 24. Ventimiglia told EW in 2020 that the end of the series is "magical" and "hopeful," while Hartley assured last year, "You're going to have a full heart." Just before this final season launched, series creator Dan Fogelman told EW of the last episode: "I do think after a lot of ambition in the season, it will feel really simple."
