BBC America spy thriller Killing Eve returns on April 7 for more thrills, chills, and, sure, kills, as newbie secret MI6 agent Eve (Sandra Oh) continues her hunt for capricious, elusive assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). Right now, though, you can obtain intel on season 2 through these exclusive first-look photos. "The first thing I think of when thinking of season 2 of Killing Eve is challenge," Oh tells EW. "And in the best of ways. It's in the best of ways. Challenge to continue the relationship, to not repeat but to go deeper into it, which is more difficult."

Villanelle, making a few adjustments

"All these characters in a totally difrerent place to where we left off in [season] 1," says Comer. "There is a... shift in energy, so it's moving forward with that and going there with them." Also: Villanelle could probably kill you with that hat.

What is this beautiful mind thinking? (Yeah, yeah, yeah — she's thinking about Villanelle. But what specifically?)

An obsessive spy mission might put a crimp in anyone's marriage. But Eve's delirious dedication to the hunt seems to be putting all things dear to her in jeopardy. "Eve has done something which may have changed her forever," says Killing Eve executive producer Emerald Fennell. "That will have repercussions with every relationship in her life." (Eve, don't touch that forbidden fruit!)

Eve and Carolyn have their eyes on their murderous prize, though it's an uneasy alliance. "There's a huge amount of mistrust still between Carolyn and Eve because both of them have been caught at the end of [season 1] in positions that are compromising," notes Fennell. "We don't know why Carolyn was on that CC TV. And Carolyn doesn't know that Eve has not gone home as she was ordered to do." But why are they working together? Didn't Carolyn fire Eve at the end of last season? "Let's say something happens which maybe requires that those things have to be put aside," says Fennell.
