HBO's Insecure to conclude with upcoming fifth season

HBO's Emmy Award-winning series Insecure will end with the show's upcoming fifth season, the network announced on Wednesday.

The comedy, executive produced by Issa Rae and Prentice Penny, tells the story of best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), two professional women living and loving in Los Angeles.

"Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy," Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming said in a statement. "The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast and the writers have put into it. This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators."

Rae told Deadline she and Penny always planned for Insecure to run for five seasons, sharing her gratitude that fans will be able to see the project through as they envisioned it.

"We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn't have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience," Rae said. "I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters' stories to an end, on-screen at least."

The actress echoed that sentiment in a post on Twitter.

Orji also teased what's to come before their final goodbye.

The release date for the final season of Insecure has yet to be announced.
