Legends of Tomorrow boss dreams of doing music video episode, Sting-themed story

Don’t expect Legends of Tomorrow do a full-blown musical episode any time soon.

In Monday’s episode, the experimental Arrowverse show staged a fun Bollywood musical number, which was the result of Zari (Tala Ashe) briefly falling in love with Sanjay, a time fugitive who used the Hindu God of Love’s ashes to help people embrace their romantic impulses. While pulling off such a major set piece, which featured original music, has definitely encouraged the show’s creative team to attempt something more ambitious, they have something other than a musical episode in mind.

“I’d rather do a music video episode,” showrunner Phil Klemmer tells EW. “Find a way for the Legends to go back in time and change history by somehow participating in the early days of MTV.

“Like, maybe if Nora was the one pulled out of the crowd in Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark video,’ she would also go on to play Monica on Friends,” he jokes.

That’s not the only music-themed idea he has. Klemmer would love for the musician Sting to guest-star as himself because John Constantine (played by Matt Ryan) is partially inspired by the English musician, and Klemmer also thinks there are some similarities between the Legends and the Police.

“It would be great if the Legends had to find a way to keep the Police together,” says Klemmer. “They’ve always fascinated me. A band that was that talented and successful, and yet couldn’t get along. The Legends are a bit like a band, and somehow they have managed to stick together despite some very contentious Sting/Stewart Copeland-sized personalities on the ship. More than anything I would like to see John Constantine turn into a twitchy fanboy around Police-era Sting and for our gang to realize that the incomparable John Constantine stole his look and swagger from a guy whose real name is Gordon.”

Here’s hoping Klemmer one day gets his wish!
