Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty, Leonardo DiCaprio, more stars pay tribute to Luke Perry

Luke Perry's Beverly Hills, 90210 costars Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, and Gabrielle Carteris are among the stars who are paying tribute to the late 52-year-old actor in the wake of his death.

Shortly after news broke Monday of Perry's death following a stroke, Ziering remembered the beloved performer — who played Dylan McKay across eight seasons of the Darren Starr-created teen series — via an emotional post on Twitter.

"Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we've shared over the last thirty years," Ziering, who portrayed Steve Sanders throughout the show's entire 10-year run, tweeted. "May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind."

Garth and Doherty gave exclusive statements to PEOPLE. "My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss," said Garth.

Doherty was also stunned by the news. "I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind," she shared. "Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained intact. There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general," she continued. "Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives. I will miss him every day. Every minute. Every second."

A representative for Carteris, whose main arc on 90210 overlapped with Perry's for six seasons, provided EW with a statement from the actress regarding Perry's death.

"I am absolutely heartbroken. Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many," Carteris said. "He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog. He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark – never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe."

On Twitter, she shared similar sentiments. "Dearest Luke- I am so heart broken and at a loss for words. You my friend were a mighty soul and have left your mark," she wrote in part.

In addition to Ziering, Carteris, and Perry's current Riverdale costars, fellow celebrities like Jon Cryer, Mayim Bialik, and Perry's Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Joss Whedon also paid tribute to the star on social media.

"Luke Perry was a character actor in the body of a heartthrob. Much respect," Cryer tweeted, while Whedon added: "The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted 'Buffy' to be. I asked if he'd ever seen 'Near Dark' and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we'd get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn't be gone."
