Haley comes to the rescue in exclusive clips from Julie Bowen's Modern Family directorial debut

After nine and a half seasons, two Emmys, and more than 200 episodes, Julie Bowen is finally stepping behind the camera. The actress is making her directorial debut with Wednesday's episode of Modern Family, the first time a cast member has directed an episode of the ABC sitcom.

In the episode, titled "Red Alert," Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) gets her first period, and her completely-unprepared dads Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) turn to their female family members for help. Meanwhile, a pregnant Haley (Sarah Hyland) struggles with baby-care tasks, Claire (Bowen) is being recruited by a company in hot water with the IRS, and Phil (Ty Burrell), plagued by insomnia, is totally exhausted on the day he has to film a real estate listing video.

In two exclusive clips from "Red Alert," the women of Modern Family offer different methods to help Lily cope with her new milestone. Gloria (Sofia Vergara) suggests a traditional Colombian remedy, Alex (Ariel Winter) comes bearing health pamphlets, and Haley assures Lily that she can use her period as a "get out of jail free card" for everything from tests to sneaking weed into concerts. (She's going to make a great mother.)

Check out the clips above, and catch Modern Family Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
