One Tree Hill stars Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush help fan propose to girlfriend

Don’t you love it when television brings people together?

On Monday, two One Tree Hill mega-fans got engaged with a little help from some members of The CW’s show’s cast. Alison Briggs proposed to girlfriend Cydney Childers at “Weekend in Tree Hill,” a charity fundraiser in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Hilarie Burton (Peyton Sawyer) and Sophia Bush (Brooke Davis) were on hand to help.

“Ten years ago I discovered One Tree Hill and it changed my life,” wrote Briggs on Instagram alongside a video of her getting down on one knee and popping the question to Childers while Burton and Bush jump and cheer. “A lot of people don’t seem to understand that, so I always tell them about how it comforted me in my darkest hours, and how it gave me a place to call home. But four years ago I joined the One Tree Hill fandom and met you, and now when I tell people about how One Tree Hill changed my life, I’ll tell them about how it led me to you.”

Her post went on to describe the day as a “dream come true,” adding that after months of stressing and wanting to plan the perfect proposal, the actual moment exceeded all expectations. “THANK YOU SO MUCH @hilarieburton @sophiabush and @fwbcharityevents for helping me propose to the love of my life- I can guarantee this is a moment we will never forget,” she wrote. “PS it’s hard to hear but I asked Hilarie what her favorite quote from the show is and (as planned) she said ‘Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes, all you need is one.’ #SHESAIDYES.”

Childers was just as also delighted with the moment. “I’ve loved Hilarie Burton since I was 8 and she was in kahoots w my f—ing gf for her proposal???????? to me????,” she wrote on Twitter. “So the thing about me is that i am engaged now :’).”

Burton also chimed in on Twitter to congratulate the pair. “It was a HUGE honor today to be a part of this beautiful couple’s engagement!! Alison, thank you for including @SophiaBush and me,” she wrote on Twitter. “We are so happy for you lovebirds!!!!!”
