Tony Danza returns to TV (with Josh Groban!) in The Good Cop: First look

Who’s the boss? This time it’s not Tony Danza, who’s making his return to television in Netflix’s The Good Cop as a disgraced former New York City police officer, Tony Sr.

Danza stars opposite Josh Groban as his son, Tony Jr., an honest-to-a-fault NYPD detective who would never dream of breaking the rules. The two form an unlikely partnership as Tony Sr., who lives with his son, begins offering his obsessively cautious child some advice and street smarts.

A first-look video features Groban and Danza seated on a couch, divided by yellow police tape. Danza wears a casual shirt and jeans, slapping his knee and aggravating a suit-wearing, buttoned-up Groban. The teaser already makes much of the clash between their very different outlooks on life and law enforcement.

The 10-episode, one-hour dramedy will hit Netflix on Sept. 21. Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., and Bill Kottkamp also costar.

Andy Breckman (Monk) is serving as showrunner and executive producer, with Randy Zisk (Bones, Monk) and Howard Klein (The Office, The Mindy Project) on board as EPs as well. Danza is also a producer on the project, which was inspired by a format from the Israeli production company YES.
