Michelle Williams on Jen's death in Dawson's Creek finale: 'It would be so funny to be a ghost'

The series finale of Dawson's Creek centered around two big life events: Joey (Katie Holmes) choosing between Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and the death of Jen (Michelle Williams).

The latter was a twist that creator Kevin Williamson felt was necessary for the characters. "We've dealt with so much—what's the one thing yet to deal with? And that's the death of one of their own, one of their contemporaries, one of their circle," he says. "I thought if we kill Jen that's going to force our other three into action. If they haven't made a decision, they'll be forced to make a decision. Nothing will make you contemplate your future faster than knowing you might not have one. So, I chose Jen as a way for Joey, Dawson, and Pacey to finally pull their lives together. And to thrust them into adulthood once and for all."

Williams admits she didn't have a strong feeling about the decision for Jen to die. "I guess I feel neither here nor there about it," she tells EW. "If there's ever talk of a reunion show or something, I'm like… it would be so funny to be a ghost and like show up in people's dreams."
