Jennifer Lawrence addresses Red Sparrow haters after rum shots with Colbert

The Oscar winner talked about her 'Kimmel' hosting gig, Trump, and more!

Jennifer Lawrence offered a frank take on her Red Sparrow “haters” on The Late Show Monday, but only after taking a few shots of rum with Stephen Colbert.

The film, starring the Oscar winner as a Russian ballerina-turned-spy, didnt exactly get stellar reviews from critics. But Lawrence, who took off her heels early on in the interview, said, “It’s entertaining. Don’t put any political weight on it. Like, if you’re like a typical hater and you have a blog, don’t go! You’re officially totally uninvited. I would like to officially un-invite all my haters to go see Red Sparrow.”

This was after a few drinks with Colbert. Lawrence had been talking about her guest-hosting turn on Jimmy Kimmel Live and how this whole late-night hosting gig is “not that hard” when he opened his secret bar behind his desk.

“This will help bring my soul back, I know it,” Lawrence exclaimed, even though it was rum and not bourbon. “It’s fine. You know what? It’s alcohol,” she added.

The actress cringed at the first sip, but then threw the whole thing back when she saw Colbert had already downed his drink. This led to such sound bites about what she’ll be doing in the next year…

“I’m gonna be developing things and talking to kids about, you know, corruption.”

… Harvey Weinstein…

“He is just that horrible ass boil that does not go away. You pop the ass boil. He’s just the worst. Just when is it gonna end? Like, in the middle of the night, I had to come up with a statement in London and I was like, ‘It’s still not over?! His awfulness is still happening?'”

… rum, again…

“Turns out I really like rum. You know what? I like when I’m vacation me, so why wouldn’t I like rum? … My vacation me, her name is Gail. I wish to God we had a photo of her.”

… Amy Schumer’s wedding…

“Amy said I scared some people. One story I definitely can’t tell you. I mean, it was just a conversation… Bridget Everett and I were talking about how much we love our dogs and I basically went too far in saying what I would do to make my dog happy. It didn’t translate and it went too far. [Takes another drink] And then I was flirting with Larry David all night, but it was very one-sided. I’m obsessed with Larry David, but he’s not obsessed with me. So after the ceremony, Amy comes up and grabs me and she’s like, let’s go upstairs and talk about life and love and this giant decision that she just made. And we go up to the roof and she’s talking about everything, and I just went, ‘Amy, every minute that I’m here Larry could be leaving.'”

… and more Red Sparrow talk that turned into Trump talk.

“The movie is actually more about the emotions that go into that kind of lifestyle, like that anxiety. It’s not glamorizing the ‘spy life.’ It seems really stressful. So I was like, ‘How do you tell your kids that you’re spies?’ And what he told me… or, wait, somebody told me. I heard through the grapevine. No, I’m not gonna give away our government’s secrets. I’m not Donald Trump.”
