Watch these Wheel of Fortune contestants come painfully close to winning $1 million

This grandfather and granddaughter may never eat a certain food again

When you spin the wheel on Wheel of Fortune, it often comes down to sheer luck.

But two contestants, granddaughter-and-grandfather team Laurel and Frank, had one of the unluckiest moments on the show when they lost their shot at $1 million in Wednesday’s episode.

As always with the bonus round puzzle, the duo spun the wheel to select their final prize, which remains hidden until after the final puzzle is solved (or not). They found themselves in better luck than some contestants, getting three of their chosen letters up on the board. They made a valiant effort, guessing “fried zucchini” in the final seconds, but the answer was “baked zucchini.” (Side note: Is that a thing people eat??? “Fried” makes much more sense.)

The defeat was upsetting when they came so close to the correct answer, but it was even more heartbreaking when Pat Sajak revealed the final prize they missed out on — $1 million. The pair looked visibly stricken, with Frank even grabbing his chest and appearing to go a bit weak in the knees.

If nothing else, it seems to be a lesson in making healthier eating choices. (But again, who really eats baked zucchini? Who?!).
