FX chief 'confident' about future of Sons of Anarchy spin-off

Excellent news, SAMCRO fans — we may not have to wait long to get a new iteration of Kurt Sutter's addictive franchise.

Though FX's much-anticipated spin-off of Sons of Anarchy has weathered some change, FX chairman John Landgraf reassured TV reporters at the Television Critics Association's press tour Wednesday about the future of Mayans MC starring Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica).

"I'm very confident of the future of the spin-off," said Landgraf, who added how relevant the show will be given its diverse cast. "The fact that almost the entire cast of the show is Latino is awesome. There are familiar faces and a lot of new actors we found."

Landgraf said that he should make a decision about a series pickup within three months.

In July, it was revealed that a new director and executive producer will join Sutter and co-executive producer Elgin James in revamping the Mayans MC pilot. Norberto Barba from The Bridge and Preacher has joined the project that's set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes — a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border — struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel and his need for respect from the women he loves.

The Mayans were recurring and pivotal players during SOA's seven-year run on FX.
