ESPN8: The Ocho will become a reality — temporarily

The fictitious network from 'Dodgeball' will become a reality for one day

Gary Cole and Jason Bateman, be ready for a phone call, because ESPN8: The Ocho is becoming a reality.

Thirteen years after the fictitious network was created for Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn’s Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, ESPN is temporarily “bringing you the finest in seldom seen sports.” Perfectly timed for Aug. 8, ESPNU is being transformed for the day into ESPN8: The Ocho, which will feature re-run broadcasts of American disc golf, cornhole, roller derby, trampoline dodgeball, and plenty more “almost sports.”

In the 2004 comedy, The Ocho was home to the Las Vegas International Dodgeball Open, where the Average Joe’s and Globo Gym faced off in an epic final match. Cole and Bateman appeared in the small, but scene-stealing, roles of the network’s commentating team of Cotton McKnight and Pepper Brooks.

Stiller, Vaughn, Justin Long, and Christine Taylor recently reprised their characters for an Omaze charity campaign, which can be viewed above.
