The Last Tycoon's Kelsey Grammer has some thoughts on 'this binge-watching thing'

TV veteran Kelsey Grammer (Cheers, Frasier, The Simpsons) and star of the new Amazon series The Last Tycoon certainly has a lot to be thankful for when it comes to successful runs on network television. However, he can’t help but be impressed by the state of television today.

“This binge-watching thing,” he says while appearing with his The Last Tycoon costars Lily Collins and Dominique McElligott on Entertainment Weekly: The Show, “I think it actually allows shows a little more life, the opportunity of a real life than what’s happening now on the networks.”

Amazon gave The Last Tycoon the official greenlight last year after subscribers voted for it to become a series.

Regarding the world of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final novel — which was unfinished at the time of his death in 1940 — that’s brought to life here, Collins says it was all the more appealing because it takes place during one of her favorite time settings.

“I grew up in a household that adored old Hollywood,” she remembers. “Everything felt just so natural and genuine and [there’s] an amazing cast to soak in that world with. So, it was a definite dream.”

Matt Bomer, Rosemarie DeWitt, Enzo Cilenti, Mark O’Brien, and Koen De Bouw also star.
