Gilmore Girls: Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham talk possible renewal

In March, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos caused a frenzy in the Gilmore Girls world when he claimed the streaming service had engaged in “very preliminary” talks with Gilmore creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino about potentially creating more episodes of the show after its 2016 revival.

“The worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more and we have been talking to them about the possibility of that,” Sarandos told British news agency Press Association.

But as far as stars Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham are concerned, nothing is currently in the works. On Sunday, Deadline hosted an Emmy-themed The Contenders event, where TVLine reports that neither Bledel nor Graham has been approached about new episodes.

“If it all existed in a vacuum, I would play that character until my dying day… Now it’s become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing,” Graham said. “I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I wouldn’t want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.”

Bledel added that, for her, it all comes down to the story. “I’m just interested in telling a story that is dynamic and that I can hook into.”

In more not-so-great news for Gilmore fans, Sherman-Palladino’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was just picked up for two seasons at Amazon, which means she might be too busy for another trip to Stars Hollow. Only time will tell.
