Netflix renews One Day at a Time for season 2

Netflix is giving One Day at a Time a second season to shine.

The streaming giant revealed Saturday it has ordered an additional batch of episodes from showrunners Mike Royce and Gloria Calderon Kellett.

One Day at a Time‘s cast starred in a short video announcing the show’s renewal, fronted by series lead Justina Machado, who plays a divorced Cuban-American mother raising two children on the reboot of the classic 1975–84 comedy of the same name

“Oh, hello. I wonder what’s happening today,” Machado says in the clip before holding up a sign that reads, “One Day at a Time picked up for season 2. Azucar!”

The show’s Gloria Estefan-performed theme song, “This Is It,” then plays as the show’s supporting cast — including Oscar-winning West Side Story actress Rita Moreno — celebrates the news.

Mackenzie Phillips, who starred alongside Bonnie Franklin and Valerie Bertinelli on the program’s first iteration, landed a single-episode guest spot on the contemporary remake, which is executive-produced by Norman Lear, who developed the original project for CBS.

One Day at a Time‘s first 13-episode season is now available on Netflix. A release date for season 2 has yet to be announced.
