T-Pain flexed his versatility during a series of intimate, sold-out concerts early in 2023, where he exclusively performed covers. To cap off the year, he released a video of one of those concerts, which took place at West Hollywood's The Sun Rose venue.
The setlists featured a lengthy collection of classic songs, including Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Want to Be," a.k.a. the theme song for One Tree Hill. The "I'm Sprung" singer shared a snippet of that track on X, the social media site formerly (and better) known as Twitter.
The covers set — titled "On Top of the Covers" — took place across three nights in March. T-Pain and his band opened with "Summertime" before welcoming the seated crowd by saying, "I'm not gonna lie to you. This is cool as f---."
He also said that the show almost did not happen because he got too excited and nearly blew out his voice during rehearsals. However, he clearly soldiered on.
The full 17-song set was released on YouTube for the holidays. It includes T-Pain's rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing," Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," The Guess Who's "American Woman" (performed in a very Lenny Kravitz fashion), Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," and Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come." He also wraps things up with a lounge-y version of his own "Buy U a Drank."
