Hey, who doesn’t love a sunrise? Especially a sunrise when you are sitting on a beach in Fiji. What’s not to love?
Well, if your name is Julie Alley, you don't love it. In fact, you’re absolutely terrified by it! That’s the surprise revelation in an exclusive deleted scene from the Survivor 45 finale.
The scene begins on the morning of day 24 of the game as Julie, Dee, Austin, Jake, and Katurah watch the sun rise over the ocean. Austin marvels at the beauty of it all, but Julie has other things on her mind. “It's my first new beach,” she notes. “I'm out of my comfort zone.”

It seems that while some people may fear insects and vermin, or the rain, or the cold, or the lack of sleep when they go on Survivor, Julie fears something else — change. “I have been very fortunate in this game;” she says. “I never had to leave the Reba Beach. I'd love to embrace the new, but that's not who I am, and I'm going to be honest — I am terrified.”
The single mother who became a lawyer in her 40s continues: “I'm not big on change — ironic since in my real life, I am huge change. I've been playing as though I was old Julie. To them, I'm the mom. I'm the muralist, I'm the artist. But in real freaking life, I am an attorney and I have made it, and I have done good things with my life. So I say I don't like change. And yet, yes, I did that in my own life, but I also remember how hard it was, and that you’ve got to dig deep and change.”
As Julie looks out at the majestic beauty of Fiji, she thinks about bringing some of that real-world risk into her time on the island. “That's why Survivor equals life. I remember that time, that was hard, and I want to dig back into that person.”
It’s a lovely sentiment, so we’re just going to go ahead and gloss over the fact that Julie would end up being voted out of the game later that very same day. Oh well.
