New Taylor Swift music feels imminent as Reputation singer drops mystery countdown clock

Taylor Swift is getting ready to drop…something on April 26, and we’re willing to bet it’s new music.

The Reputation singer, 29, posted the date all over her social media channels along with a glitzy image of diamonds patterned together to make a pink heart. Swift also dropped a mystery countdown clock on her Instagram Story that is counting down to the April 26th date.

Is it a single? A music video? Details for her seventh album? An even crazier prediction: something to do with the Cats movie?

In March, Swift published an article for Elle magazined titled “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30,” in which she mentions countdown clocks.

“I make countdowns for things I’m excited about,” she wrote. “When I’ve gone through dark, low times, I’ve always found a tiny bit of relief and hope in getting a countdown app (they’re free) and adding things I’m looking forward to. Even if they’re not big holidays or anything, it’s good to look toward the future. Sometimes we can get overwhelmed in the now, and it’s good to get some perspective that life will always go on, to better things.”

In that same article, she also wrote about the songs that “healed my heart after bad breakups or let downs” — and what’s the image that’s helping promote the date April 26?

According to a video blog from Perez Hilton, posted online last May, Swift apparently told him new music would be coming by 2019 the latest.

“What I did say to Taylor was I would love it if the next album had a song called ’30’ to keep up the continuation — she had ‘Fifteen,’ she had ’22,'” he said. “She’s like, ‘Oh, well, the next album will definitely be out before I’m 30.'” Swift’s 30th birthday is this Dec. 13.

When you factor in that Swift was seen as early as January back in the recording studio, new music on April 26th seems like a sure thing.

Swift’s last music release came in 2018 with her Reputation album, including songs “Look What You Made Me Do,” “…Ready for It?,” “End Game,” “New Year’s Day,” “Gorgeous,” “Delicate,” and “Getaway Car.” She then embarked on a massive concert tour and capped off 2018 with a Netflix concert special with footage of her Oct. 6th pitstop at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Since then, Swift has also been busy with Cats, the movie musical based on the Broadway classic. She will star in the film opposite Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella, Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy, Ian McKellen as Gus the Theater Cat, James Corden as Bustopher Jones, Idris Elba as Macavity, Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, and Jason Derulo as the Rum Tum Tugger. Swift will play Bombalurina.
