New Judas and the Black Messiah trailer charts Black Panther revolution

Daniel Kaluuya leads a revolution in the new trailer for Warner Bros. Oscar-bound drama Judas and the Black Messiah.

Leading the Shaka King-directed film, Kaluuya sparks cultural and political disruption as the as real-life Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton, whose actions prompted FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover (Martin Sheen) to mount a secret infiltration that led to his state-sanctioned killing. Enter William O'Neal (LaKeith Stanfield), who joins the Illinois division of the Black Panthers as an informant for the feds, and keeps tabs on Hampton while manipulating both his comrades and his handler, Special Agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons).

As Hampton's influence grows throughout the country, he also falls for fellow revolutionary Deborah Johnson, played by Show Me a Hero and The Deuce actress Dominique Fishback.

"It wasn't easy on the heart, if I'm being honest," Kaluuya, an Oscar nominee for his work opposite Stanfield in the 2017 hit Get Out, told EW in our latest cover story. "There were days that you just felt... low with the weight of the reality. To be channeling those ideas, that time and that dynamic, it lay heavy on the cast."

Judas and the Black Messiah — also starring Lil Rel Howery, Ashton Sanders, Algee Smith, and Jermaine Fowler — releases to theaters on Feb. 12, the same day it begins a 31-day streaming period on HBO Max. Watch the new trailer above.
