You can now watch Idina Menzel singing 'Seasons of Love' on Uncut Gems set with Adam Sandler

The Safdie brothers’ live-wire thriller Uncut Gems already has a killer soundtrack, between Daniel Lopatin’s atmospheric, synthy score and pitch-perfect needle-drops like Billy Joel’s “The Stranger.” But there’s one song that, while it understandably didn’t make the final cut, is still — dare we say it? — a gem.

When directors Josh and Benny Safdie and stars Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel, and Julia Fox took part in EW’s Uncut Gems roundtable (which you can watch above), Josh shared a behind-the-scenes clip of Menzel singing “Seasons of Love” from Rent — the musical that made her a star — on set, playing the video from his phone. (It happens around the 18-minute mark, to save you some scrubbing.) That video has now been posted to Twitter, allowing you to see and hear it a bit better, but don’t forget, you heard it here first!

In the clip, Menzel sings as a sort-of-in-character Sandler bobs his head and yells, “We’re gonna get back together!” (Menzel plays the disgruntled wife of Sandler’s character, Howard, in Gems.) But perhaps the best moment comes at the end, when actress Noa Fisher (who plays Howard’s daughter, Marcel) shows off some impressive vocal chops.

Menzel originated the role of exuberant performance artist Maureen Johnson in Rent in 1996, earning her first Tony nomination. She went on to reprise the role in the 2005 film adaptation.

Uncut Gems, which has earned Sandler some of the best reviews and biggest Oscar buzz of his career (he picked up the Best Actor trophy at the National Board of Review‘s awards gala Wednesday night), is now playing in theaters nationwide.
