Happy 2020, stargazers — and happy Capricorn season! Kicking off the new year with the no-nonsense month of the sea-goat always feels like a cross between a cruel cosmic joke, giving us whiplash after the thrills of irresponsible Sagittarius season, and a highly practical gift, kicking our butts into gear as we try to get started on resolutions. We're all trying to use this month to set ourselves up for success (a Capricornian enterprise if there ever was one) in 2020 — including our entertainment choices. So read on for the pop culture that will define your first year of the roaring '20s!

ARIES (March 21 to April 19)

There's nothing you love quite so much as a sparkling new beginning, Aries, and this year is doubly exciting for being the start of a decade, too. So in this period of thrilling newness and trailblazing next-ness, you're going to celebrate artists who are in that phase of their careers, as well as on the calendar. Your 2020 will be all about debuts, including buzzy books from first-time novelists like Megan Angelo and Kate Elizabeth Russell, first-feature filmmakers like the 44 who will bow at Sundance this month, artists like former Fifth Harmony singers Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani making solo debuts — and that's not to mention all the people we haven't even heard of yet, destined to create something brilliant and new and shake up the whole culture, without any notice!

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20)

LIZZIE MCGUIRE

While the fresh start presented by a new year might appeal to some people (okay, cardinal signs, we get it), a change-resistant Taurean like yourself may struggle a bit with the blank page that lies ahead — and the expectation to fill it with something unfamiliar. But don't worry sweet bull, just do it your way! Your 2020 will be devoted to reboots and revivals of all the shows you've loved before, whether you've been holding your breath for more Battlestar Galactica for the past decade or have found yourself at a loss for fashion inspiration since Lizzie McGuire's enviable assortment of bedazzled bandanas and patterned pants faded into memory. See, Taurus? You don't have to let the past die.

GEMINI (May 20 to June 20)

In a lot of ways, 2020 already promises to be heavy — which means, as all good multifaceted Geminis know, that lightness and laughter will be all the more important. In a year that will bring seemingly countless new series (on an ever-expanding variety of platforms), you'll devote your TV time not to prestige dramas but smart, witty, star-studded comedies, with Awkwafina (a Gemini herself) leading her own semiautobiographical sitcom, Amy Schumer (a Gemini again!) making us laugh on Hulu, and Steve Carell (a Leo, sorry) poking fun at a certain presidential proposal. You do have a talent for finding something to smile about.

CANCER (June 21 to July 22)

Children of the Land by Marcelo Hernandez Castillo
HarperCollins

You are a great lover of home, Cancer, and it's times like the new year (and the holidays, and your birthday, and Labor Day weekend, and Tuesday mornings, and Friday nights, and lazy Sunday afternoons) that make you feel especially connected to it. So you'll be moved, this year, by timely narratives engaging with the power and meaning of home. There is a wealth of stories of the immigrant experience coming out in the next 12 months, from upcoming indies to memoirs to big-budget musical remakes, that will speak to you, gentle crab, no matter your own background.

LEO (July 23 to Aug. 22)

Open Book
HarperCollins

Okay, we're calling it now. The moment has arrived. This is it, Leo — 2020 is the year you get famous. You've been prepping for this all your life, we know, but to fully get a handle on your forthcoming superstar status, study up with a few of the new firsthand accounts coming out this year. Your collection of juicy celebrity memoirs is about to expand with an entry from Diane Keaton, the confessions of Jessica Simpson, and the collective account of the history of the Jonas Brothers (of which middle-bro Joe is your own sign-mate). And congrats on the big year ahead! Wow, we knew you when!

VIRGO (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)

Not to be a downer (gosh, if you had a nickel…), but none of us can really afford to divert all of our attention away from reality this year, can we, Virgo? You're so worried about real-life right now that mindless escapism just feels irresponsible, offering no pleasure — and hey, the smartest entertainment always comments on the present moment anyway, whether directly or not. This year, you'll spend your allotted pop culture consumption hours (assuming you budgeted yourself any) on the 2020 election, from candidate debates to late-night riffs to political docs to abstract indies that speak to the problems facing our country. Try not to worry too much, Virgo. You're doing the best you can.

LIBRA (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)

You're devoted to making the world a lovelier, pleasanter place, Libra, and what better way to do that than by putting it to song, or dancing around the dark parts? You'll get swept up in musicals in 2020, with big-screen outings for In the Heights, West Side Story, and Everybody's Talking About Jamie, small-screen entries like Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, and musicals both old and new hitting the stage. There's always been a song in your heart, sweet scales — this is the year to let it out.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)

You can get a bad rap, Scorpio, for being so dark and scary and whatnot, but we understand you. We know that you're actually more sensitive than anyone, experiencing every emotion so intensely that it's practically a physical sensation — and that you also always want to be feeling everything even more. So this is the year that you connect with the art that speaks to you most as deeply and as intimately as you can, stalking your favorite artists' concert tours, getting as close to the stage as possible, breathing in the sweaty air, letting your head throb with the volume. So, um, have fun.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)

You have the incredible distinction, Sagittarius, of sharing your astrological sign with a remarkable number of irresistible, inimitable, untouchable pop divas. We're talking Britney. Christina. Taylor. Janelle. Miley. Billie. The list goes on! So this year, you'll lean into that fierce Sagittarian spirit with glittery pop releases from fabulous female artists of all sun signs, like Kesha (a Pisces, bless her heart), Selena Gomez (darling Cancer), and fellow fire sign Dua Lipa (a Leo, on the cusp of Virgo). It's shaping up to be a girl-powered 2020 for you, archer. Aren't you lucky!

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)

It's just a matter of time before your own illustrious existence gets the big-screen treatment, Capricorn, so you might as well catch up on biopics now so you can provide detailed instructions for future production teams about how exactly to adapt your notable life for the screen. This year will bring Julie Taymor's take on Gloria Steinem, The Glorias (pictured above); Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin in Respect; and David Fincher's latest, Mank, starring Gary Oldman as Herman J. Mankiewicz writing Citizen Kane, among others. Likely none of them will be quite as impressive as yours, obviously, but just for research purposes.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)

TENET
Warner Bros. Pictures

For quirky Aquarians, a new year is a new, exciting chance to become all the more your singular self. The same goes, too, for some of the most extraordinary filmmakers working today, so you'll spend this year relishing the creatively distinct new offerings from your favorite auteurs who are back at it in 2020. You'll have perfectly picturesque dreams after taking in Wes Anderson's latest, The French Dispatch; none of your excitement was lost in translation when you learned that Sofia Coppola reteamed with Bill Murray for On the Rocks; and you've been counting down the days to Christopher Nolan's Tenet (pictured) since the first look dropped. No cinematic sameness for you this year!

PISCES (Feb. 19 to March 20)

Another year is like another life, isn't it, Pisces? Rather than looking at 2020 as a monotonous continuation of what came before it, you see it as a rebirth — so the pop culture that will speak to you this year will be beloved stories, born again in new forms. You'll be re-inspired by Jane Austen's classic Emma and Frank Herbert's iconic Dune on the big screen, while Sally Rooney's Normal People and Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere will make for irresistible TV watching. Happy new (if familiar) year!
