Jon Stewart's political comedy grows its Irresistible cast

Jon Stewart will always have a place in the late-night television circuit, but the sharp-tongued wit has turned his attention to another movie.

After Rosewater, a more serious look at the brutal interrogation of a detained Iranian-Canadian journalist, Stewart's political-comedy Irresistible is now growing its cast with Chris Cooper. The Live By Night actor joins the previously announced Steve Carell and Rose Byrne.

Plot details are largely under wraps at the moment, but a press release from Focus Features, which partnered with Brad Pitt's Plan B to produce and distribute the film, says the story is "set amidst a political campaign."

"In the age of fake news, Jon Stewart continues to be the real deal," Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement. "He's been making us laugh at the bipartisan commitment to bending the truth for years, and we couldn't be more excited to partner with him and Plan B as Jon brings his signature wit to the big screen with the incredibly versatile talents of Steve, Rose, and Chris."

Stewart still has a lot to say since he turned over the Daily Show reins to Trevor Noah on Comedy Central, and imaginations are already running wild around how Irresistible will factor into our current reality… or will it? Probably maybe.
