New Flatliners trailer trips through life and death

Try to relax and 'enjoy the experience'

Ellen Page and Diego Luna are having a seriously bad trip in the new Flatliners trailer, a mind-bending romp with a group of medical students playing with the forces of life and death.

The film, a remake of the 1990 original from director Joel Schumacher, centers on this group of inquisitive minds as their obsession over the mystery of death leads them to the ultimate life lesson: playing God has consequences. Over a series of experiments, they each stop their hearts for short periods of time and are then brought back to life to record their experiences. The consequences of turning this into a game and playing with the natural order involves some horrific and paranormal occurrences.

The new trailer tells this narrative by using breathes as the pulse of the preview, one that gets increasingly uncomfortable as the experiments become more high risk and the footage becomes more psychedelic.

Joining Page and Luna on this ride are Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), James Norton (War & Peace), and Kiersey Clemons (The Flash movie). Directed by Niels Arden Oplev (the Swedish original of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Flatliners hits theaters on Sept. 29.
