Ben Stiller has a midlife crisis in Brad's Status trailer

Ben Stiller is haunted by all the roads untaken in the trailer for Brad’s Status, a new film written and directed by Mike White (HBO’s Enlightened). With the Zoolander star playing a father named Brad Sloan, a college road trip for his musical prodigy of a son, Troy (Austin Abrams), turns sour when it reminds Brad of all the success he may never achieve.

It’s hard not to have “a nervous breakdown…or something,” as his son puts it, when he constantly compares himself to his old buddies from college. Michael Sheen plays a political pundit and best-selling author, Jemaine Clement is a tech entrepreneur that sold his company and now parties on the beach with models, and Luke Wilson plays a hedge fund founder with his own private jet.

But with the strength of Brad’s family comes the realization that, while he may never reach anything beyond his comfortable life in suburban Sacramento, he might have everything he needs. Plus, he’s got a wife played by Jenna Fischer.

White more recently wrote the film Beatriz at Dinner, starring Salma Hayek and John Lithgow, and he worked on the screenplay for The Emoji Movie. Stiller, meanwhile, was spotted in the latest from Noah Baumbach, The Meyerowitz Stories, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Brad’s Status, from Amazon Studios, will open in theaters on Sep. 15. Watch the trailer above.
