Love Actually sequel photos preview Hugh Grant's role

Producer Emma Freud isn’t standing at our door with a set of romantic cue cards, but she is winning fans’ hearts with a new crop of photos from the set of the upcoming Love Actually sequel.

Freud previewed production on the new 20-minute short, titled Red Nose Day Actually, on Sunday morning, sharing a series of snapshots taken as returning actors Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon filmed their scenes over the weekend.

“And here he is. Our Prime Minister. Again. And still hot,” Freud tweeted, referencing Grant’s character, David, the fictional head of the British government in the 2003 romance. Sharing a picture of McCutcheon, who plays David’s wife, Natalie, Freud added: “Our pm is still married. And she’s still lovely.”

Nearly 14 years after Love Actually‘s release, most of the film’s on-screen players have returned, including Liam Neeson, Andrew Lincoln, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Lucia Moniz, Bill Nighy, Marcus Brigstocke, Olivia Olson, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Rowan Atkinson. Richard Curtis steps back into the director’s chair on the project with co-director Mat Whitecross. Two-time Oscar nominee Joanna Johnston (Lincoln, Allied) designed the short’s costumes.

Red Nose Day Actually will debut as part of U.K. charity Comic Relief’s biennial comedy fundraiser. It is set to air on Red Nose Day (March 24) in the U.K., later airing in the U.S. May 25 on NBC.

“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually,” Curtis previously said of the project, “but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to. Who has aged best? I guess that’s the big question — or is it so obviously Liam? We’ve been delighted and grateful that so many of the cast are around and able to take part — and it’ll certainly be a nostalgic moment getting back together and recreating their characters 14 years later. We hope to make something that’ll be fun and which we hope will help bring lots of viewers and cash to the Red Nose Day shows.”
