Love Actually cast to reunite for a Red Nose Day short film

Red Nose Day, the comedy fundraiser run every two years by U.K. charity Comic Relief, has a very special treat in store for the 2017 event. Film director (and Comic Relief co-founder) Richard Curtis is reuniting the cast of his most beloved movie, 2003’s Love Actually.

Several members of the cast will be featured now, 14 years later, in a short film that will revisit the lives of their characters. Included in the film will be Liam Neeson and his on-screen son, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (now 26 years old); Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon; Keira Knightley and Andrew Lincoln; and Colin Firth and Lucia Moniz; plus Bill Nighy, Marcus Brigstocke, Olivia Olson, and Rowan Atkinson.

“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually,” Curtis says, “but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to. Who has aged best? I guess that’s the big question — or is it so obviously Liam? We’ve been delighted and grateful that so many of the cast are around and able to take part — and it’ll certainly be a nostalgic moment getting back together and recreating their characters 14 years later. We hope to make something that’ll be fun and which we hope will help bring lots of viewers and cash to the Red Nose Day shows.”

The short film, which begins shooting this week, will be shown as part of Red Nose Day on March 24 in the U.K. and will later air in the U.S. on May 25 on NBC.
