Making This Is Me...Now: A Love Story piqued Jennifer Lopez's interest in directing

Though her new film is directed by Dave Meyers, Jennifer Lopez says the hands-on experience has made her intrigued with stepping behind the camera.

Watch out, Ben Affleck — there might be another director in the family soon.

This Is Me...Now: A Love Story is Jennifer Lopez's most hands-on film to date: Not only did she produce and star in it, but she also co-wrote it and worked hand-in-hand with director Dave Meyers to realize her vision.

Lopez and Meyers go way back, as he directed several of her music videos including "I'm Real" and "All I Have."

While speaking with EW about making this cinematic companion piece to her new album, Lopez confessed that she did briefly consider directing the project. Instead, she found the partner she needed in Meyers.

"Dave Meyers definitely directed this," she says. "But it was like we were holding hands step by step, side by side the entire time. He's such an incredible visual director, and he elevated this in a way that I could have never imagined that he would do."

"But at the same time," she adds, "he really counted on me for story and the beats and the choreography and all of those parts of it. It was a real collaboration in that way."

Lopez and Prime Video are also releasing the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told (Feb. 27), about the making of This Is Me...Now, which gives more insight into the intense level of her involvement in the process. It also shows Affleck, who won Best Picture for one of his directorial efforts. Argo, offering advice through the lens of his experiences as a director.

Lopez is already a multi-hyphenate as a producer, music artist, fashion icon, and actress (and that doesn't include her multiple fashion labels over the years as well as her successful line of fragrances). But does she want to add director to her résumé?

"Maybe," she says, with a coy smile.
