RuPaul's Drag Race icon Kornbread says Hocus Pocus 2 originally had different queen scene

The "Drag Race" star tells EW how she feels about her sister Hershii LiqCour-Jeté's elimination and confirms she'll release her season 14 talent show song very soon.

RuPaul's Drag Race icon Kornbread "The Snack" Jeté won Miss Congeniality in 2022 after prematurely exiting season 14 due to an untimely ankle injury, but she tells EW's Quick Drag podcast (below) that she almost won a ghoulishly good second title that year as well.

In an interview tied to the season 16 elimination of her drag sister Hershii LiqCour-Jeté, the fan-favorite queen reveals to EW that the original script for Disney's Hocus Pocus 2 — in which she appeared opposite fellow RuGirls Ginger Minj and Kahmora Hall as drag versions of the Sanderson Sisters — included an alternate outcome for the queens.

"Originally the drag queens were supposed to win, and we ended up not winning. If we would've won, there would be a possibility [we could come back for Hocus Pocus 3]," Kornbread explains, referencing a scene toward the middle of the film that sees herself, Ginger, and Kahmora competing in a Halloween costume contest against the witches played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. "We can't come back if we lost!"

When pressed for details on the original scene, which precedes the witches bursting into song with a cover of Blondie's 1978 tune "One Way or Another," Kornbread recalls that the queens' elaborate costumes (which remained in the final film) helped them triumph over the other competitors.

"I think they changed it through production writing. It was very much close toward the start of filming, because if you look at the costumes, we had the biggest most lavish costumes while everybody else had Party City-looking costumes," she says. "Our costumes were literally tailored to us. We got there and they made the costumes to our bodies from scratch."

"Even Bette Midler was shocked about it," Kornbread continues. "She was looking and she was like, 'Why did they win? They look like the best ones!'"

EW has reached out to Disney for comment.

Elsewhere in her Quick Drag interview, Kornbread tells EW she was surprised that Hershii was eliminated after the runway ball, because she feels that her Los Angeles-based drag sister went into the competition with the kind of sewing skills required to do well in the fashion design challenge — but was still entertained by the fact that Hershii walked down the runway with a pair of pre-made pants that the judges immediately clocked.

"She’s honest beyond measure and thinks nothing is wrong with it. She really walked down that runway and tried to sell those pants," Kornbread says. "I don’t blame her."
