Emily Blunt was picking up dog poo when she found out about Oppenheimer Oscar nom

The actress said she had a "brief weep directly after picking up my dog's poop."

Emily Blunt played Kitty in Oppenheimer, but her Oscar nomination for the film will forever be associated with a dog.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz at New York's 92nd Street Y, the actress revealed that she was walking her pet when she learned she'd been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Christopher Nolan's historical drama about the father of the atomic bomb.

"I did have a brief cry in the middle of Brooklyn, brief weep directly after picking up my dog's poop," Blunt said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I did pick up her poop and then I heard that I got nominated, so it was perfect," she explained, adding that her husband, John Krasinski, "had a really good cry as well, after helping me with the poop. I think he went and put it in the trash, and then we both cried."

Blunt also revealed that she was apprehensive about the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations. "It's all quite scary, the anticipation of it, and I think you just try not to listen to buzz because buzz can be built on sand sometimes," she said. "And so when it did happen, and when it happened in such a far-reaching way for all of us in the movie and every crew member, it was magical."

Oppenheimer is the most-nominated film heading into the 96th Academy Awards. The film secured 13 nominations — just one away from tying the all-time record of 14, which is currently held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. In addition to Blunt's Best Supporting Actress nom, Oppenheimer landed nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, and Best Sound.

Blunt will next appear in David Leitch's The Fall Guy alongside Ryan Gosling, as well as Krasinski's family adventure If. She also teased a possible follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow, the 2014 sci-fi film in which she battled aliens opposite Tom Cruise: "I think when we were first talking about the sequel, it was right before I was about to do Mary Poppins, so it was quite a while," she told Horowitz. "And then I think if we’re going to do one, we would have to reimagine what the sequel will look like."
