That Dawson’s Creek revival fantasy you’ve been harboring since the day Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was announced? Well, Joshua Jackson just put another nail in its coffin.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host grilled the current star of Showtime’s The Affair about a reunion with Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, and Michelle Williams. Initially, she got the usual excuse — that the series killed off Williams’ Jen Lindley in the series finale — but DeGeneres wasn’t having it.

“She could come back as the evil twin or something,” she insisted.

“That’s actually a great idea,” Jackson said before continuing to crush our dreams. “The other thing is, it’s been a very long time, and I think, for anybody who was a fan of Dawson’s, to actually see the four of us on camera again might be a little bit shocking and kinda heartbreaking. We’re not cute kids anymore. I mean, we’re holding up OK, but I think if you put the four of us now next to the four of us then, it might be a little shocking.”

“I disagree,” DeGeneres said.
