MTV's Sweet/Vicious an empowering take on campus sexual assault

Sweet/Vicious is barely two episodes into its first season but Bingeworthy’s Touré and Jessica Shaw are already big fans.

“I’m super proud of MTV for putting this on,” says Touré of the show’s subject matter. “Television and culture is not dealing enough with the massive problem of college campus rape.”

Sweet/Vicious centers on Jules and Ophelia (played by Eliza Bennett and Taylor Dearden) as the two students decide to secretly serve as vigilantes on their college campus.

“I’m sure there are a lot of women who’ve had things happen to them — or are afraid of things happening to them — that will enjoy seeing these two young women take matters into their own hands and beating up these guys,” adds Touré.

Shaw is just as effusive in her praise of the show and its subject matter.

“This is the definition of ‘Take Back the Night,’” says the co-host. “I love this show. I want every woman and teenage girl to watch this. It’s very rare that you find a show that’s very entertaining and very important, and this show actually blends all of those worlds.”
