The Voice: Billy Gilman wows, Martina McBride responds

Billy Gilman continued to wow audiences on The Voice Monday night with his incredible performance of Martina McBride’s “Anyway.” The 28-year-old former child star has been impressing judges and viewers alike with his talent.

Country music star McBride saw Gilman’s cover of her hit song and could not help but praise the contestant’s pipes. “Billy Gilman, just saw u do Anyway on The Voice,” McBride tweeted before adding, “and it blew me away. And that clip of u onstage w/ me..remember that like it was yesterday!”

The two country singers actually have a significant history. Once upon a time, McBride brought a young Gilman onstage with her and footage from the performance helped him secure a record deal at the age of 10. He went on to score a country Top 40 single with “One Voice” when he was 11, but after his voice changed, his subsequent music did not receive the same level of attention. His performances on The Voice, however, have been making waves week after week.

Gilman’s coach, Adam Levine, was also dazzled by this week’s outing. “Everyone knows you can sing, they know your story, but, man, I just can’t explain to everybody how special what we’ve just heard is,” he said. “I’m blown away, man; I’m amazed by you.”
