A band of tentacle-covered aliens land in giant, egg-like pods at various locations around the world, and the military tasks linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) with getting to the bottom of the circumstances surrounding their mysterious appearance; That’s the plot of Denis Villeneuve’s aptly-titled sci-fi drama Arrival, which debuted its final trailer on Thursday.
In the minute-long preview, Banks voices disbelief as she ascends into the extraterrestrial crafts. “Am I the only one having trouble seeing aliens?” she asks. Later, Banks comes face-to-face with the otherworldly creatures, placing her hand on a pane of glass as an octopus-like feeler pushes itself against the other side. “Now that’s a proper introduction” she responds.
The film, Villeneuve’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Sicario, is based on Ted Chiang’s The Story of Your Life, and features a supporting cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Tzi Ma.
