Law & Order: SVU delays Donald Trump-inspired episode

Law & Order: SVU‘s take on Donald Trump will have to wait until ballots have been cast and tallied.

NBC decided Friday to put the Trump-inspired episode “Unstoppable” on ice, a network spokesperson confirmed to EW. The fifth episode of season 21 was originally set to air Oct. 26, less than two weeks before Election Day on Nov. 8. No new airdate has been announced.

The episode features guest star Gary Cole as a politician whose “campaign goes haywire when several women go public with damaging accusations,” according to the network. The decision to indefinitely postpone the episode was due to the recent flurry of sexual misconduct allegations leveled against the Republican nominee for president, according to Variety, which was first to report the delay. (Trump has vehemently denied all accusations.) The episode was finished over a month ago, but has since had its story altered, Variety reports.

New showrunner Rick Eid teased last month that the ripped-from-the-headlines show might use Trump for inspiration. “It’s possible we will explore some sort of zeitgeist political-themed episode involving an iconoclastic candidate,” he said. “But I guess, overall, the idea is that we continue to be inspired by real events and topical events and things that are in the zeitgeist.”
