Selena Gomez: Taylor Swift, Kanye West feud comments posted online

Selena Gomez came to the defense of Taylor Swift early Monday morning, posting a series of tweets about the latest chapter in Swift’s feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

“There are more important things to talk about… Why can’t people use their voice for something that f—ing matters?” Gomez tweeted. “Truth is, last thing we need right now is hate, in any form. This industry is so disappointing yet the most influential smh.”

After providing her commentary to the feud — which reignited when Kardashian posted video of Swift and West discussing the Life of Pablo track “Famous” — Gomez was criticized for not using her own platform to support social causes in America, such as gun control following the mass shooting at an Orlando, Florida gay nightclub last month. (Gomez did participate in a charity single to support the Orlando victims with a host of other famous musicians.)

In a tweet that she later deleted, Gomez replied to one user critical of her public silence on Black Lives Matter, writing, “so that means if I hashtag something I save lives? No, I could give two f—s about ‘sides.’ You don’t know what I do.”

Gomez’s comments came after Kardashian posted video proving West had spoken to Swift about a portion of his infamous “Famous” lyric: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.” Swift previously long denied any conversation took place. “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account,” Swift’s representatives said in a statement earlier this year. “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.'”

In the video posted by Kardashian, Swift and West do not discuss the “I made that bitch famous” portion of the lyric, something Swift pointed out in her response. “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song?’ Swift wrote in a statement after the video was revealed. “You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world.” She later added, “While I wanted to be supportive of Kanye on the phone call, you cannot ‘approve’ a song you haven’t heard.”
