Although Flea has performed with Metallica and inducted the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the bassist will forever be linked to the Red Hot Chili Peppers as one of the band’s founding members — but, apparently, a customs agent at a Belarus airport wasn’t aware of that.

In an Instagram post, Flea recalled a slight mix-up where airport officials mistook the RHCP bassist for a Metallica member. “We were called into customs officials office at an airport in Belarus and they asked us to sign a bunch of Metallica cd’s and photos,” he wrote. “We tried to explain to them that we weren’t Metallica but they insisted that we sign anyway. They had the power.”

Flea went on to mention performing “Fight Fire with Fire” with Metallica, but humbly added, “I’m no Robert Trujillo,” referring to the metal band’s bassist. See photo proof of the encounter below.

RHCP released their latest album, The Getaway, earlier in June and most recently performed in Moscow on Saturday. They’re next set to hit up T in the Park in Perthshire, Scotland on Sunday.
