Jenna Fischer is going to see the stars. And, well, the meteors.

The Office alumna has signed on to star in the world premiere of Steve Martin’s new comedy, Meteor Shower, at San Diego’s Old Globe (the same location where Martin debuted his musical, Bright Star, which just concluded an acclaimed if short-lived run on Broadway).

Fischer will lead a cast that includes Greg Germann (Ally McBeal), Alex Henrikson, and Josh Stamberg (The Affair). Gordon Edelstein will direct the co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, for which he serves as artistic director.

The play takes place in the Ojai backyard of Norm and Corky (Germann and Fischer), who invite a couple over to view a meteor shower one evening and, as you might guess, the stars aren’t the only thing that go flying and flaring. Press notes describe Martin’s comedy as “an offbeat and absurdist look at the comic anxiety lurking just beneath the surface of modern marriage.”

The show’s already-extended run at the Globe begins July 30 and will run through Sept. 11, with opening night set for Aug. 7 at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre.
