Con Man first look: Eliza Dushku joins Alan Tudyk in web series — exclusive

It was recently announced that Eliza Dushku will be appearing in the second season of Con Man, the comedy web series about an actor named Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk) who is attempting to escape the shadow of a canceled sci-fi show on which he and a character played by Nathan Fillion once starred. But who exactly is the Buffy actress playing?

“She is playing a woman named Janet,” chuckles Tudyk, who created Con Man with the science-fiction novelist PJ Haarsma. “You and me, we can make up a last name. Fiddlebottom! Let’s go with that. Janet Fiddlebottom. That sounds awful!”

Too late, it’s canon! And what is Janet Fiddlebottom’s occupation? “She’s a casting director,” says Tudyk, who is also an executive producer on the show with Fillion and Haarsma. “She is in charge of casting the TV show that is the main objective of Wray Nerely for the season. His desire is to get a role on this TV show called Doctor Cop Lawyer, which is a show about a guy who is a doctor, a cop, and a lawyer, simultaneously. She’s a passive-aggressive casting director. She’s your best friend until just the slightest bit of trouble, and then she’ll hurl you right under a bus.”

Tudyk and Dushku have plenty of experience working together from their days on Joss Whedon’s short-lived but action-packed show, Dollhouse. “I was her arch enemy named Alpha,” says Tudyk. “So, we’ve beat the crap out of each other, we’ve gone through a glass window onto the ground, we’ve made out, I’ve kidnapped her, she’s beat me with a pipe, I’ve shot at her. We both go to Comic Con-type conventions all over the world, and that’s usually where we get the chance to catch up. We were doing season 2, and that was a role that I thought would be fun for her to play. It’s a bit against-type for her, and that’s one of the things we like to do on Con Man, is give actors fun roles that they might not get a chance [to play] usually. Just come over here, and do a little silly comedy, and have fun!”

Season 2 of Con Man will be released this fall. From today, all season 1 episodes are available to view on Comic-Con HQ and Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program.
