'One of the biggest experiences ever created by Nintendo'

This year marks the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo’s storied franchise about a boy in a green hat fighting the forces of darkness with swords and musical instruments. But the company claims that Link’s next adventure will be his grandest yet.

At E3, Nintendo debuted a long first look at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, described as a “truly seamless” experience that transforms the open world of Hyrule into “a resource, an ally, an enemy, and always a place for discovery and wonder.”

Breath of the Wild is slated to arrive sometime next year and apparently will be playable on Nintendo’s Wii U and Nintendo’s mysterious new NX console.

Nintendo is betting quite a bit on its new Zelda, making the game the primary focus of its E3 presentation this year. The company hasn’t had the easiest time this generation, with soft sales for the Wii U and the recent stumble of Star Fox Zero. But speaking as the psychopath who wrote 11,000 words about the last Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild does look pretty nifty.
