The Good Wife spinoff in the works — but not for broadcast

We may finally see that all-female law firm after all.

Multiple outlets are reporting that the creators of The Good Wife — which just ended its critically-acclaimed run on Sunday — are in serious talks to co-write a spin-off of the CBS drama for the network’s All Access digital subscription service.

The spin-off would reportedly tell new stories about Good Wife characters Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo). Robert and Michelle King are nearing deals to co-write the first episode, reports say, but will not run the CBS TV Studios-produced series.

The spin-off will reportedly earn straight-to-series order. A spokeswoman for CBS TV Studios declined to comment.

It’s likely the CBS programming team will announce whether a spin-off deal was made at the network’s annual upfront presentation May 18 in New York City.

If it becomes a reality, the Good Wife spin-off will be the second scripted series in the works for CBS All Access. Last November, the company announced plans to premiere a new version of Star Trek in January 2017 that will introduce new characters and new worlds. Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote and produced the movie Star Trek with Roberto Orci and Star Trek Into Darkness with Orci and Damon Lindelof, will serve as executive producer for the new series.
