'Containment' canceled by The CW

The CW isn’t letting Containment back out.

The thriller was about an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving the large city quarantined and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. The show only averaged 1.8 million viewers and a 0.6 among adults 18-49. Containment was sometimes billed as a limited series. But like other high-concept broadcast dramas started with the short-run premise — like CBS’ Under the Dome and Fox’s Wayward PinesContainment had an easily expandable format — if the show were a success.

The move represents a rare one-and-done for The CW, which basically brought back its entire lineup this season — plus picked up CBS’ Supergirl too.

The network also ordered a trio of new dramas — the live-action Archie Comics series Riverdale, bucket list project No Tomorrow, and a reimagining of the film Frequency. More on those here.
