New Girl season finale clip: True American is back

First things first: New Girl‘s Schmidt-Cece wedding is happening. But before that, the whole gang has to play a game of — what else? — True American.

“What we decided to do is make it the First Lady edition of True American, so there’s a lot of First Lady trivia,”creator Liz Meriwether tells EW. “I’m sure America is waiting for that with bated breath.”

If they aren’t, they’re missing out. In an exclusive clip from the season 5 finale, the loft erupts in delightful chaos as Jess (Zooey Deschanel) stages a round of the drinking game the night before the wedding. “Just somebody explain to me the rules,” a confused (and probably very, very drunk) Sam (David Walton) asks at one point.

Somehow they all survive, but just barely: In another exclusive clip from the two-part finale, Winston (Lamorne Morris) is in the shower washing off both his and Aly’s (Nasim Pedrad) puke — and Nick (Jake Johnson) is freaking out as he realizes that the groom is missing.

According to Hannah Simone, who plays Cece, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) heads to Portland the morning of the wedding to convince his soon-to-be-wife’s mom to come. “It’s not the best idea to get on a flight to try to get somebody to come to the wedding the day of your wedding,” Simone says. “But it just shows that Schmidt’s heart is so in the right place of being the best husband that he can be as opposed to having the best wedding that he can have.”

Everything eventually works out though, and there’s even a little surprise thrown into the mix: “Stick around for the tag at the end,” Simone teases. “There’s a huge twist.”
