USA picks up Ryan Phillippe-starring 'Shooter' to series

Omar Epps also stars in the drama based on Stephen Hunter's 'Point of Impact'

USA is taking aim with Ryan Phillippe. The network announced a series pick-up on Wednesday for Shooter, a drama based on Stephen Hunter’s best-selling novel Point of Impact, which had previously been adapted into the 2007 film starring Mark Wahlberg also titled Shooter.

Philippe, who also serves as a producer, is set to star as the heroic Bob Lee Swagger, an expert sniper who had been living in exile when he learns of a conspiracy to kill the president, forcing him to return to the life he thought he left behind. Omar Epps (House) co-stars as Swagger’s former commanding officer Isaac Johnson, an ex-Marine who now serves as a Secret Service Agent and needs Swagger’s help with a risky clandestine operation.

The series, produced by Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions, is executive-produced by Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with a pilot written and produced by John Hlavin (The Shield).
