Love, Nina: Helena Bonham Carter cast in Nick Hornby's adaptation

Helena Bonham Carter will star in Love, Nina, Nick Hornby’s upcoming adaptation of Nina Stibbe’s Love, Nina: A Nanny Writes Home for BBC One, the network announced Wednesday.

The drama is inspired by Stibbe’s adventures as a young nanny who moves from Leicester to London to care for two rambunctious boys in the ’80s. She chronicles the experience in letters to her sister back home.

The actress will play the role of Georgia, “the beautiful, forthright mother to Joe and Max,” according to a release.

Love, Nina reunites Bonham Carter with Toast director S.J. Clarkson and the project marks Hornby’s first TV drama.

“Nina Stibbe’s book Love, Nina has already established itself as a much-loved piece of comic writing and I love it,” Hornby said in a statement. “Her observations and worldview were the inspiration for a show that we think captures the same spirit. It’s been a joy to write and we’re thrilled with the quality of our cast.”

In addition to Bonham Carter, the cast includes Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones, The White Queen) as Nina as well as Jason Watkins (W1A, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies) as author Malcolm Tanner, Josh McGuire as Nina’s on-and-off boyfriend Nunney (Scrotal Recall, About Time), and Ethan Rouse and Harry Webster as brothers Joe and Max.

Filming for the five-part miniseries begins in London this month.
