The Originals casts Veronica Mars star Jason Dohring in season 3

If The Originals is lacking in anything, it’s humans. (Right, Cami?) But the good news is that there’s a new detective coming to town.

EW has confirmed that Veronica Mars star Jason Dohring will recur in season 3 as Detective Kinney, a confident man who, unlike the Mikaelsons, has a clear sense of right and wrong. According to his character description, he is determined to bring the bad guys to justice, but considering that he’s unaware of the supernatural side of New Orleans — and we know that this season’s bad guys are vampires — we’re willing to bet it won’t take long for things to get interesting (and extremely violent).

Dohring is set to first appear in the season 3 premiere on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
