Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation to preview IMAX footage before Terminator

Paramount Pictures is doing its best to ensure that Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation gets off to a flying start. Approximately five minutes of the Christopher McQuarrie-directed film—featuring Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt—will premiere exclusively on stateside IMAX screens before screenings of Terminator: Genisys, which opens nationwide July 1.

The high-profile plan plays to action-movie fans seeing the fifth installment in the Terminator series, who are likely to return to theaters again to see Cruise’s latest Mission: Impossible outing as he takes down the Syndicate, a rogue band of anti-IMF operatives.

Co-starring Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Alec Baldwin, Rogue Nation promises to showcase some of Cruise’s craziest stunts to date, including one where the 52-year-old is strapped on a plane as it flies 3,000 feet in the air.

“They brought me this plane, and I was looking at the model,” McQuarrie told EW of the stunt earlier this year. “And I said to Tom, ‘What if you were on the outside of this plane?’ I was kinda half joking when I said it, and he just looked at me and said, ‘Yeah, I could do that.’”

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation opens in theaters nationwide July 31.
