Super Mario Maker, Legend of Zelda, Star Fox: Biggest trailers from Nintendo's E3 event

Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event included many of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, though maybe not in the way fans would have expected. A new The Legend of Zelda appeared, but it wasn’t the delayed Wii U game. Metroid finally reappeared, but in unexpected form. New Mario games popped up, but not the new major game in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy.

But there was still plenty of new titles shown, so let’s jump into some of the biggest reveals.

Super Mario Maker closed out the show with a release date—Sept. 11—and a beautiful 8-bit Mario amiibo that will likely immediately sell out when it hits shelves.

Star Fox Zero opened the show, after Miyamoto and Nintendo provided a very small peek at what was coming from the franchise at a previous E3. The game will allow players to control ships from viewpoints both on the TV and the Wii U Game Pad controller. It’s set to come to the Wii U this holiday.

Yo-kai Watch, also coming this holiday, looks like it wants to be the next Pokemon (it’s seen success in Japan that is reminiscent of that global phenomenon). The game focuses on a young boy or girl whom players control as they befriend the ghost characters known as Yo-kai.

Paper Mario meets the Mario & Luigi RPG series in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. It will see the two versions of the Mushroom Kingdom come together in 2016.

Several more games were announced including a Four Swords-esque Zelda called The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which includes both competitive and cooperative shooting, and a new sports outing for Mario in Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. And Yoshi’s Wooly World received a release date of Oct. 16 for the Wii U. Check out these trailers below and stay tuned for more E3 coverage.
